Why Cloth Diaper

Environment

On average if your child potty trains at age 3 they will have approximately used 7,200 diapers.  If these are disposables they will sit in a landfill for 250-500 years.

Additionally any solid waste in these diapers also sit in the landfill and has the potential to cause disease and water contamination if there was a leak.

Cloth diapers makes sure that solid waste ends up where it belongs, in sewage treatment.   When our cloth diapers are no longer suitable for diapering they can be recycled as rags.  If they do get thrown out eventually they have a break down time of 5 months.

Health

Cloth diapers contain no chemicals such as chlorine, perfumes or polyacrylate (a chemical used for absorbency). Chlorine and other chemicals can strip away good protective bacteria on the skin and change the pH balance of your infant skin, which can cause dryness and  irritations. Also, these chemicals have been found to be carcinogenic.

Cloth diapers allow for increased air flow which regulates heat.  Excessive heat can lead in girls to yeast buildup and rashes, urinary tract infections, and thrush.  For boys excessive heat can increase their scrotal temperatures.

Potty Training

Studies have shown that children that are cloth diapered have an easier time transitioning to using the toilet and do so at an earlier age.

It is thought that when a child is wearing a cloth diaper they are more aware of being wet.  This then should trigger the correlation of why they are wet and how they then can avoid it but using the bathroom.

Cost Savings

If you were to launder cloth diapers at home it in theory the one cost of purchasing your diapers and supplies and then you have diapers for not one child but perhaps all of your children.

But perhaps you really do  not want the extra laundry.  Maybe you're nervous about laundering the diapers yourself in your washing machine.

Cloth diapers may still end up saving you money.   Not only are our rates very competitive with what you are spending for disposables, but they are delivered right to your door once a week!   Additionally remember your children are more likely to start potty training early.  If that's the case you're done with that expense entirely!
